SINCE 1999

Our story

A passion for fashion. One woman. Over twenty-five years with you.

The woman behind every garment

Before Isabelle Toronto, there was Isabelle. A Toronto woman in love with fabrics, with tailoring, and with the stories every garment carries inside. This is her story — and, in many ways, ours too.

THE BEGINNINGS
Toronto, the seventies

Ever since she was a girl, Isabelle sketched dresses in the margins of her school notebooks. While her friends played at recess, she watched the women walking along Bloor Street and dreamed of the day her own designs would dress someone.

She studied design, travelled to trade shows in Milan and Paris, and spent years working in small neighbourhood ateliers — learning to sew by hand, to understand fabrics, to respect the craft. Fashion was never a business to her. It was a way of caring for people.

SPRING 1999
The day we opened the doors

A small shop in the heart of Yorkville. Freshly painted walls, empty racks waiting, a cash register borrowed from a friend. That April, Isabelle turned the key for the first time and hung the sign above the door: Isabelle Toronto — Fashion for living.

Not many people came that first day. But the woman who walked in at five in the afternoon and left with a raw linen dress wrote, without knowing it, the first line of this story.

OUR WAY OF DOING THINGS

Curation, not collection

Every garment that came into our boutique passed first through Isabelle's hands. Every fabric, every seam, every button. We never sold what was trendy. We sold what we knew would last — in your wardrobe and in your memory.

Milestones along the way

Her selection of linen and raw cotton pieces stood out for its artisanal sensibility at a runway show dedicated to local talent.

Moments we will never forget

5th Anniversary — 2004

We filled the boutique with white flowers and opened a glass of sparkling wine with every customer who walked in that Saturday. Five years. More than three thousand women dressed. A family that had grown without us even noticing.

The digital leap — 2020

The world shut down, but our desire to keep dressing you did not. That May we launched isabelletoronto.com and, for the first time, a customer from Vancouver ordered a dress without ever having met us. We cried when we printed that first shipping label.

25th Anniversary — 2024

Twenty-five years. A quarter of a century. We wrote it twice because we still can't believe it. We gathered you in the boutique with champagne and gave each of you a white rose with your name written by hand. Some of you cried. So did we.

YOU
You are the soul of Isabelle Toronto

More than 6,800 women have worn our pieces. Some came for their wedding dress. Others were looking for the perfect coat for an interview, or the outfit to celebrate a promotion, or simply something beautiful on an ordinary Tuesday.

Every one of you is part of this story. Without you, Isabelle Toronto would have been nothing more than a sign above a door.

JANUARY 2026

A turn we never expected

At the beginning of this year, Isabelle suffered a stroke. She spent several weeks in the hospital. Her family, her team, her closest customers — we all held our breath.

Today, thanks to a recovery we can only call a miracle, Isabelle is home. But her life has changed forever, and ours has changed with it.

Why we are saying goodbye

After months of conversations, Isabelle has asked us to close. Not with sadness — but with the calm of someone who knows she has given everything.

Twenty-five years are a whole lifetime of designs, of fabrics, of women who walked through our doors and took a little piece of Isabelle with them. The garments left in our warehouse are the last ones Isabelle selected personally, one by one, before she was admitted to hospital.

That is why we want each one to find its home. That is why we are offering discounts we have never offered before — up to 70% off. This is not a marketing promotion. It is a farewell.

The last pieces Isabelle selected

When these garments find their homes, there will be no more. Take home a piece of the story.

Thank you for walking this road with us

If at some point you took home one of our dresses, a handbag, a pair of shoes — thank you. If you are discovering us today and there is still time to take home a piece, welcome to our final season.

Every garment that leaves our warehouse carries Isabelle's twenty-five years inside it. Care for it. Wear it. And, if you can, write to us at info@isabelletoronto.com with a photo the first time you wear it. It would make us so happy to know where our pieces are living.

With all our love,
The Isabelle Toronto team 🤍
